What is Junior Trader

Junior Trader gives Undergraduates and Y12-13 pupils access to a real time stock picking experience in a team environment. It is addictive and competitive and even is approved as a DofE Skill.

Since 2008, many of our alumni have used this experience as a launchpad to a career of their choice, whether in finance or another area, and have found it an invaluable experience to list on their CV and to discuss on Personal Statements and at interview.

Junior Trader gives schools, universities and financial institutions a structured  approach to financial education, an area which is often lacking from the curriculum.

How it works

The series starts with a fast paced tour of the roles available to graduates in the City, and simulates equities research and trading in the form of a stock picking competition with students working in teams.

A second more detailed lecture on “what moves a share price”  completes students teams’  basic knowledge enabling teams to choose a balanced portfolio of investments in retail shares taking account of the prevailing economic environment.

To finish, a short written team report explaining their choice of investments is then required for each participant to receive a Certificate of Attendance (and DofE Skill if necessary) – demonstrating an awareness of and exposure to financial services to prospective employers or educators.

About Junior Trader

The programme is an engaging and lively introduction to investment, behavioural economics and careers in finance, and is open to all schools and universities to apply to participate in.
